www.DiyPotatoCannons.com is a website you have to check out! Potato cannons have been around for a while, and I bet they used to be part of many science classes across the country. They may still be part of the physics curriculum, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they have pulled all of the fun educational stuff (e.g, potato cannons) out of the school day and left behind all of the text book study. Sorry… back on to the topic at hand. A potato cannon, sometimes called a potato gun or potato launcher, is made from common items that can be purchased at a hardware store. Seriously, everything in the cannon is easily purchased and the process of building the cannon is straightforward as well. The thing that will surprise you, I suspect, it the force that a homemade potato cannon is able to produce. You really have to be careful when working on the project and when firing the cannon, because you obviously don’t want anyone to get hurt. This website, diy potato cannons, sells downloadable plans for under $5 bucks! Their potato cannon plans sell of $4.99 and you are able to download and get started right away. If you are interested in physics and have a willingness to roll up your sleeves to do this project in your spare time, I bet you’ll be excited when you see all that this website has to offer. Check it out, go to Potato Cannons and let us know what you think when you fire that first potato a couple hundred yards!
